According to this video. It is possible to travel faster then the speed of light. I should just leave it at that so people can come up with their own theories. However I did notice that light was bending in a glass of water... That means that the speed of light could be accelerated.

Thanks a lot Ernie. Now my mind is going to blow up. :)

But can light be accellerated, or can it only be retarded. I would think the light being bent is caused by it being slowed when passing though a heavier medium. As for the theory of the speed of light being as fast as you can go, I have always thought otherwise. I have always looked at it from the perspective of the speed of sound. When you are in a jet going above the speed of sound you feel no different. Also you still hear sounds from outside the jet providing they are not coming from behind you. So if you have that in your mind and apply it to light... A person going faster than light would notice no change within what he is in. But viewing outside he would only be able to see ahead and to the sides. As the view goes towards the rear you would reach a point where light cannot reach you as you are going faster than it is. So then what would you see? I think it would gradually blur as you angle your view back until you hit the angle that you are going faster than it can reach you. At that point I feel it would fade to black.

    What are your thoughts?

I agree with you Doug on what you can see. Everything we do on earth is affected by gravity. Since the universe is expanding. It is reasonable to say that ther is a gravitational forc acting on it. If you can find it and harness it then you can exelerate solid objects the same way as it was done in the experiment. We need more knowledge to go any further but excelerating light is a different story but I think it's possible.

Lol, I've stirred up a hornets nest of brainwaves!
Let's not over complicate things. (lol)
Light cannot exceed the speed of light.
But, it can get from point A to point B faster in some cases by NOT going in a straight line.
    What? lol
    Think, worm hole now. lol
    Out!

Light cannot exceed the speed of light the same as sound cannot exceed the speed of sound. But we can exceed the speed of light the same as we can exceed the speed of sound. It is all a matter of how.

Now let me throw a curve at you. If you are in a ship that is travelling twice the speed of sound. If you say something to the person sitting ahead of you they can hear you. Within the ship sound travels at the speed of sound. When observed from outside the ship the soundwaves within the ship are going more that twice the speed of sound. Again the same applies to light. It is all in the perspective that it is observed from.....

I'll have to disagree......light, is the speed limit.....I read that somewhere.
There is an example, that if you were in said spaceship, traveling @ the speed of light, and turned the headlights on........there would NOT be a beam of light ahead.
To put this aside....I will boggle your mine, with a Visual......do you want to SEE the speed of light?
You'll see it, in the first 2 min of this video:

Just because I read something I do not always accept it to be true. I am the type that will challenge popular belief. The speed of light being the limit of all things is only in theory, it is not proven.
As for turning on a headlight you would not see it before the ship as the light is limited to the speed of light. you would see the headlight and the ship at the same moment. But if a person turned on a light within the ship people inside the ship would see the light. So in theory if a person could observe it from the outside the light would be travelling faster than the speed of light. It happens too fast to see though. I can't watch the vid right now as I am watching a movie with my wife.

If a plane flies by going faster than the speed of sound you watch it go by before you hear it. If it flew by going faster than the speed of light it would go by, then you would see it go by after and then finally you would hear it go by last. :willynilly: :D

    Lol, that was awesome!

(If you witnessed that, you would probably say: "WTF just happened?")

It describes your first Blue Angles airshow....your watching the #1 plane on your left, and the #6 plane comes shooting over your right shoulder, but you don't hear it....then you hear the engines roar, but you don't see any planes no more, and your like, "Did I just miss something?".

In General, we have discussed Theory, and it's Relative.

    Ha, did it again.

    Good one!!

Being able to view a photon is like trying to pick up a basketball but just as your hands reach the ball your toe kicks the ball out of your grasp!! Or as you put in energy to view the electron (more light) that extra bit of energy gives the proton that much energy hence it moves out of the way and is unviewable!!

    My new laptop......crapped out.

I think it's the CPU. Tried warming it up with a heatgun.....nothing but a black screen, and flashing Caps Lock.

It might wear a Bullseye Target next.

Sorry about your laptop Ernie. I have issues with mine as well. Fortunately I have two, but they are both old.
If you do decide to blast yours with a projectile of some sort, don't forget to post the video.:)
