Tax Rebate?

As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said each of us would get
a rebate check to stimulate the economy.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs,
if we purchase a computer it will go to India,

if we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras,
and Guatemala,
if we purchase a good car it will go to Japan,
if we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will
help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America.
The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard
sales,
since those are the only businesses still in the United States.

That subject came up this weekend. And since I've learned a thing or ten over the years we settled on a bunch of paver squares. The small ones. That she can do herself. Yea right, another weekend shot to blazes!

They should have taken all that money and built a couple of oil refineries and drilled that arctic wasteland called Alaska.
Then we could have cheap gas....

That would have stimulated my economy.

Im gonna use mine as a down payment on a new motorcycle.

Dean,
It is only their opinion that we make too much money to be treated like everyone else. You don't have to make a lot to be excluded. They begin phasing out the rebate so that individual that makes over something like only $80,000 or a family that makes over around $150,000 get nothing.

Edgemann55,
I believe that you will have to declare the rebate as income in 2008, I'm pretty sure about this.

Racer X,
Yes the meaning of Democracy in this country is starting to work like this. A bunch of people get together, and vote to take some other peoples stuff and split it up. This will never work in the long run, we'll get tired of it eventually and do something. Think about it like this. In school, your success and effort is graded. What if they took all the kids who worked hard and got 'A's and averaged their scores with the kids who did nothing, and got 'D's and 'F's, so that everyone got 'C's. Who would bother working hard in school?

Which is exactly what they are doing by using a complete/incomplete grading system for classes rather than the normal A, B, C, D and F grading system so they don't make a child feel insuperior next to another. Unfortunately, this just creates an individual that is unable to cope with the real world once they learn that people are not equal.

This tax rebate is just another redistrution of wealth; one more socialist act in a failing democracy.

All you guys make too much money to get a rebate? I haven't read what the deal is on these.
Dean,
The way they determine your rebate is by your adjusted gross income. So, all the write offs an individual might have (i.e. mortgage interest, charitiable contributions, etc.) do not count toward calculating your rebate.

Guys its very easy to b1tch about the system we are in. Yes, I do my fair share of it. In all the carping about it, please don't forget how truly lucky we are to have been born in this country. Fair or not, the stimulus package will mean more to somone making $20k - to $30k a year than it will to someone making 2 - 10 times that amount.

Kevin, I 100% agree on both points.

The total stimulus monies will get spent regardless of who gets those little checks. It will do the lower income families MUCH greater benefit that giving it to me so I can buy a couple more servos.
