Thanks...the wing and stab have purple tips...so cowl and pants will match......I think...!

Had a better day yesterday...went to the paint pro and it appears the contributing problem is my spray gun, which is a detail gun, and is too small...therefore, promotes more overspray on the larger surfaces....makes sense to me now as I think of it....smaller surfaces came out clean....so I popped for $200 ...gun comes in today....so cost of paint has gone up dramatically!!!!!!!!

Did my color sand on the pants with 1000 gr wet-dry...sanded wet for about 10-minutes..then used some Dupont extra fine polishing compound.....hand rubbed...then added a coat of wax.......T&A...!!!!!

Pic1 is the result...still can do more..but good enough for the pants....satisified with result.........

I will need to wait for warmer temps to shoot the cowl...will report results of new gun performance and some shots of cowl....later...V

Finished up all the color sanding on the clear......used 800gr and 1000gr....took about 30-minutes for each half....now ready to shoot the cowl again with a larger coverage gun....need to wait for warmer temps...

Played around with some polishing compounds on the clear...ended up with a water based product called "System One".......takes out all the swirls.....fool proof on burning through the clear...tried to take a picture of close up results....not good...will try for a better pic....later V

Well, had a much better day with the gun....lays down a different path of fluid...took a while to get the feel....took some pics...have several so may take a two posts...went and shot a single base coat followed by two coats of clear....ended up with a few minor runs as I laid down the clear in a heavy coat to make sure I did not color sand through with 1000gr...please excuse the blue color...the flash refracts out the purple...will post a natural shot when done with final polish..

Pic1 shows a practice board used to adjust gun....really needed.

Pic2 shows the booth ready to go...note pant stand I made.

Pic3 shows the pants drying ....

Pic4 shows the cowl halves drying

Pic5 shows all the parts outside hardening up outside.

Clearcoat is dry to touch after 30-minutes...still gassing off for some time. Place outside to quiet the wife....smelling up the garage..!!!

Now done with the paint....will move on the finish covering the wings...almost done....V

Made some progress this weekend...finished covering up one wing and aerilon....lots of material....just a slow painful process.....have a few pics showing the progression of covering that I followed...

Pic1...shows blocking out servo holes and hinge edge.

Pic2...shows a white strip for leading edge.

Pic3 ..shows finishing off inside and trailing edges..

Pic4 shows placing white strips on bottom as a first step.

Pic5 ...shows adding the red strips on top of white...

Will need to go to next post to see top side...V

After finishing up bottom strips, next step was to do the top side...sans graphics....

Pic1 show top all done....

Pic2 shos bottom all done...

Left to do is some graphics and hinges....intend to do the hinges tonight leaving only the finish topside graphics....haven't burned myself too much with the irons and heat gun to date...later...V

Thanks for remarks.......! Well, last night I followed through on my threat and hung the aerilons....quite a task owing to the number of hinges I had selected. I have gone through the drill once before on the stabs, but will add some commentary on the large wing surface.

First, I slotted the covering material over each hinge hole, and then ironed the material down and around the hole. Then took a cotton swab and wetted the interior surface of the hole with water....then put two drops of PU glue into each hole....did this first to the aerilon with the aerilon in the upright position. I then took the hinges and swabed vasilene into the hings slots..then took a swab and wetted one end(all sides and around) of each hinge with PU glue and placed into upright standing aerilon....positioned hinges...checked every 10-minutes or so....wipe away any foam...reset hinges as necessary....soon, around 45-minutes, all is in a temporary set....check once again and then let set.

A few hours later, I did the same with the wing...used lead shot bags to hold the wing upright....repeated the process with the upright wing...the aerilons were then a real trial....all the hinges are now hanging ...have to wet all the surfaces with PU glue....one arm paper hanger with a broken leg somewhat describes the process....then stick the hinges into the wing....see pics.

Pic1 shows the aerilon awaiting the PU glue and hinges.

Pic2 show the double hinges I positioned around each hard point.

Pic3 shows wing in upright position awaiting the PU glue and aerilon.

Pic4 shows the inserted aerilon in position and drying...

One down one to go....almost done...!!!!!!

Last night before placing the one completed wing in the huck, I did some last minute chores.....sealed and cut out the servo mounting holes....did some touch up with a heat gun...then weighed the finsihed wing sans decals and wing tube and servos.....all up dry weight was 48-oz., or 3-lbs on the money. Went back and checked the dry weight before hinging and covering and the net increase was 5-ozs. for those interested in such minutia.

Will commence with covering the last wing half this weekend with a goal of all completed before Easter.....almost a year of dinking...!!!! V
