I started the Lt outboard part of the wing yesterday. Just wanted to mess with my son for making fun of me cutting my thumb. Original plan was to finish the center section then finish the Sboch. Today I'm going to finish up the Sboch and see if I can get the MVVS I got from Steve running again. Got a new ignition for it. It will give me some time to see how I want to attach the struts to the wing before I glue all the ribs in.

Those spar cutouts in those ribs look quite deep. Have you had any of the ribs break when working with them?

I also agree with the Canadian gentlemen's comment.:)

I cracked 2 of the ribs taking them back off. The slots were to tight. The problem one encounters making them one at a time by had.
Trying to find sheath metal to make Strut brackets out of. I'll have to go out of town to get some.

Time for an update. I happened to have some sheath metal laying around left over from my bike building days. It just so happened to be 1/16 thick. I made up the new ribs out of 1/8 lite ply and made the brackets. Pre installed them then glued in the ply ribs.THis was due to me changing the plans to the BUSA method of mounting the wing struts.

Of course nothing comes easy. I had to get some more Balsa sheaths to make the wing tips out of. What I had was not wide enough to make it out of one piece. A little bit of template making and I had the rib tips rough cut. It has always been a challenge to make the under camber wing tips. My new method is to fit and shim up the bottom piece and glue it in place with CA. once that set. Fit the rest of the pieces and Glue them in place with some Tite Bond wood glue and Clamp till dry. This is the easiest way I found so far.
Now to decide if I want to figure out how to put scale hinging on the ailerons.

Are you going to start sanding or wait until the other side is framed up?

I sand a little here and there but I'm waiting till I get the other side done. Then I'll get the shop vac out and sand both wings. I still have some sanding to do on the fuse also.

I have the Rt upper wing framed up. Haven't had time for a few days to work on it but the Piddle method is still making progress. Not much longer till I'm finished with the framing.

You are doing a fantastic build documentation!

I've abandoned my project even after capping all the ribs. Perhaps I'll post some pictures of my struggles and maybe get some ideas to get around those obstacles or simply some motivation to try again to press on.
So it goes with modeling - for me.

Posting the pictures helps with motivation for me. Post some here. Maybe we can help you get back to it.

I've been holding up on the hinging till I went to the Hoosier Dawn Patrol. There were some Examples of scale hinging but most of the planes had the RC flat hinges. I talked to a few people and I found Steve Percifield,s (Sir Perci) way to be to my liking. I copied his method to the best of my understanding. It turned out great and it's removable.

Wow that's pretty cool Tom. Do you have a picture of an uninstalled hinge so we can see what it looks like?

Here you go Pam. I took a bunch of pictures on the hinge I just installed. Ask if you need clarification on anything.

Is that a carbon rod? How is it attached to the aileron?

It is glued with medium CA. It is sticking well. I think that and the covering would hold it fine but I'm also going to attach it with strips of .075 F/G Cloth.
