There are not alot of 30cc sized ARF`s available in Canada from dealers. Ordering one from a dealer in the US involves not only our regular taxes, but most use UPS for shipping, and they really extort/ripp us off big time for their so called "brokerage fees" which can be as much as 40% of the products value.

My friends got the 30cc Pilot Sbach and Yak from ParagonRC here in Ontario.
I do not wish to have the same machine as them, as nice as they are. Great Hobbies distributes the Slipstream/EG line. But I would like a few more upgrades than the Slipstream line offers. EG is coming out soon with a 30cc MSXR (in green checkers version, like the 50cc now available), but It will not most likely be available till spring.

I called Great Hobbies, because they are a Aeroworks distributor up here, and asked for a price on the new 30cc Edge 540. Thier price was $540 plus shipping and taxes. Ouch! Almost as much as my 50cc Aeroworks Edge I bought from HiFlight last spring, which are now unfortunately out of business.
So I forgot that Idea. And Aeroworks new 3occ Extra 300 which soon will be released.

So after much looking around, and seeing many positive builds on the internet on Peakmodels (a fellow from NB Canada on FG, RCU, RCCanada has done a number of their builds with positive results http://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=113510
    ) I decided to give their new 30cc MSX-R a whirl.

    http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_99_112&products_id=646

Looking it over, only a couple important things I do not like are: the two piece airfoiled gear should be one piece, so we will have to see after flying if that will have to be up-graded, the firewall on the engine box needs some more tri stock and pinned with screws, some metric hardware I will change and not use like the servo arms, maybe the gas tank bung. And the wing area seems to small for a plane of 75 inch span. I think/hope this is a error in calculation. If not, I will have a nice big pylon racer!

I E-mailed Peakmodel and asked a few questions first. The price includes shipping to most countries in the world. Spare parts are available on request. The covering on this model is name brand Monokote.

The version I ordered is the yellow Breitling one. It accepts a can which is cool.

I will be powering it with a DLE-30cc rear carb version two.
TX will be a new JR11X (see thread started here on TFC in the 2.4 Arena forum)
RX will be a JR R921 2.4 with two remote RX`s
RXbattery will be a 2300 NoBSA123 racing with a Deans 16 gauge feed and a 22 gauge uni balance lead from Hangtimes Hobbies http://www.hangtimes.com/a123_packs.html
RX switch will be a Electro Dynamics Ultra HD with quad gold plated contacts, 18 gauge Deans in, and two redundant 22 guage uni`s to the RX.
Ignition will use another 2300 A123, another Electro Dynamics switch, but with a SmartFly voltage regulator inline to the electronic ignition pack of the DLE-30 http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Regulator/4.htm.
Five JR8411MG`s will be used for ailerons, elevator and rudder.
Two DS3517MG metal gear mini`s will be used on throttle and choke.
Servo arms will be a mix of the new H9 aluminum 3 bolt black ones and old H9 aluminum gold ones.
Prop to start will be a Xoar PJE 3D 19A from Thunderbolt RC here in Ontario http://www.thunderboltrc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=73_81
Fuel DOT will be a JE Model Products which I purchased from Aeroworks http://www.aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=329
The muffler will be a 30cc canister from Paragon RC here in Ontario http://www.prcmodel.com/modeng/name/onlinestore/func/viewprod/product/442

I have everything purchased except the engine, can, RX battery and switch, and one servo for choke or throttle, and have not decided on a spinner.

I am really excited to get it and get started in a few weeks!

Well, since my last post I got my 3 inch CF spinner from Graph Tech, a can from Paragon, another 3517, a 19B from Vess, another A123 and ElectoDynamics switch from Hangtimes Hobbies, a couple gold plated JR HD leads, and a "Big Daddy" fuel filter.

I am just waiting for Hobby King to get Dle-30`s in again. But I am very impatient and probably end up ordering one from our local dealer Thunderbolt RC.

Besides, Thunderbolt will be the one I turn to for parts, like I did when my DLE-55 came with no wrist pin clip! I got a piston kit, with piston, wrist pin, bearing and clips from him last spring for like 15 bucks. I should have learned my lesson then.

Speaking of getting antsy and impatient, my account at Peakmodel said my 30cc MSX-R was sent out on the 8th of December. The shipping was included in the price. The tracking # does not link to Hong Kong Post.

So I have been waiting, and waiting.

    Anxiously watching the mail box.

Well, I`m just about burned out from the anxiety, so I wrote Peak a letter on last Thursday asking how long it usually takes, and about the non-working track#.

I also re-asked them for the manual they said they would e-mail me that they never did.

So I am now waiting for the holidays to end (there?) here and then write some more letters.

The only experience I have had in getting packages from the East Orient is from Hobby King. And their shipping was here (I paid for the most expensive though) in under 12 days.

Thats where my build stands as of now, I will fill you in on what happens next.

Chad: am following this build closely as I am aware of the quality of your work. No doubt your package has got caught up in the holiday rush and traffic. Keep your emotions in check as best you can. . . Cheers

    Thanks John,
Hopefully in the next couple weeks I`ll get my model. In the meantime I am repairing my Funtana X-100 which will keep me busy for awhile. Since I have to beef it up in the gear and engine box area anyhow, I was going to put a DLE-20 in it, if I could sell the four stroker. But it is a bad time of year to sell something on RCC. Canadian`s can be cheap a$$ anyhow if their government is not sending them a check in the mail this time of year.
    Socialist turkeys.....

Besides, buying the 11X, the power safe Spektrum RX with A123`s for my 50cc Edge, and crap for the 30cc has put me way, way over my budget anyhow.

It will be nice you are taking your computer south to Florida this winter, and will be checking up on us all up here in our igloo`s. Besides, those guys got it too sweet down there flying amongst the coconuts and sunshine. They need a Kamikaze Canadian flying around to keep them on their toes.

Have a safe drive down John. Keep a eye on my thread here, and tell me how you make out at Troy Built Models, or any other LHS you scope out.

Your going to be very happy. I just completed my build on a 30 cc MXS-R.
Mines blue and silver. The packing, quality and overall good looks of the model everyone likes.
Its one of the best quality afrs I have gotten. Just used extra epoxy on the engine box, etc. The build is very easy and mine even came with the tank plumbed and a fuel dot thats really nice.
Had a problem with a new MLD 35cc engine as the case cracked on first start. But the vendor has stood behind the product and has already shipped me a new engine. I sent pictures of the cracked case and did post a message here with a picture.
    Hope yours shows up soon.

I may have to buy one of these just to throw in an RCGF 32 and use for a warm up plane. Looks great!! The RCGF should haul it around like a foamie.

Well, I resent the letter I first sent just before Christmas to Peakmodel and got a immediate response this time.

They gave me (a fellow by the name of WAY seems to handle the E-mail accounts) the list of tracking scans my model has gone through since it was mailed out on the 8th.

It`s last scan was at Gestapo Headquarters (Canada Customs) in Vancouver British Columbia on the 27th.

This is cool, it now only has to survive the trip across four provinces, some 2000 miles in the care of the SS (Canada Post) with out getting bashed, munched, dropped, or stepped on.

It is not worth the bother asking Peakmodel how they can access the tracking number that I can`t, as long as the package can be tracked is cool by me.

Seems to be a little difficulty in translation when communicating with them, as I again asked for them to e-mail the manual, but no response on that part. I will ask again if one is not included with the ARF.

I could always have contacted their head office by phone in Auckland New Zealand by phone, but I was not panicking yet.....

Now I am defiantly stoked about getting my plane and will be watching the mail box daily for the slip from the Post Office to inform me my package has arrived.

Thanks for the update. It seems that Peak has them cheaper than SDS or cyclone. I'll be interested in hearing how well the kit is put together.

The build manual comes with the AFR. Its a 2 inch CD in a white paper covering. You might need to check the shipping box as it sometimes chooses to hide. Its a basic build manual and covers numerious AFR's. The better cg for a first flight appears to be on the forward part of the carbon fiber spar tube. Theirs a MXS-R 30 cc build done by Jincent from Peak Models over at FG. He's posted alot of pictures of the build.
Mine came double boxed and it was packed very good. No damage.

Thanks for the great info Pilotnx211, much appreciated.

I just found that build on FaG, and another pair on RCG by running a google search from the tip that marksextra gave on the SDS version. Just typed SDS in, and found those builds.

    They are here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1348491#post16946691

    and here: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58664

I also invited the modelers on those threads to come over here to TFC for a breath of fresh air. If you notice, I am flying the TFC colors, but have not been asked yet to edit them. They have been up on my old posts for over a month now.

After reading their builds, I am really getting anxious to dig into it, taking notes on all the little things I will change, or prefer on my ships.

    Hi Chad
Saw your note in the FG thread, just thought I'll pop by here and say hi.

On the landing gear; It seems to be a random hit or miss whether you get the one piece or two piece version. Me lucky to have the one piece lg. Other guys got the two piece, I think that was from SDS if that might matter.

From the land of tall, beautiful Viking like women.........Sveeeden...lol

Great to see you here dude!

    Great stuff.

I hope you check out TFC and stop by regularly to shoot the breeze. I think you will find the forum here a cooler, more relaxed, funner place to hang out.

On most nights now there is more postings, and more active members here then on RCG, or FG.

And thanks for the landing gear tip........I noticed in some pics they seemed to have a one piece gear, but thought I was seeing things. I hope the luck of the draw gives me a one piece job, but I am not holding my breath......

Really getting excited now on getting this plane. I know its not a 100cc ship, or even a 50cc, but hey, still allot of pesos for me.

Hey Chad, I would love to hear what you think of the wing size (SQ) when you get it, it is the only thing holding me back. My buddy in Calgary has their 50CC Edge and he loves it. As for shipping his was very well packed and made the trip no problem. I imagine you will get it shortly Cdn Postal can be a PINA as you probably well know.

This is the best deal out there for us Cdns I have been looking at 30CC planes and unless you can get them accross the boarder the shipping makes it $$$. Like you mentioned the aeroworks or waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy over priced for their 30cc, 540 are you kidding me maybe its because they finally decided to include Carbon Fibre parts LOL

    Slats.

    Hey Slats, thanks for posting.
Yah, UPS has really ruined it for us Canadians getting big boxes from the States. To bad USPS did not ship over sized parcels for a little extra $.

I have had good luck with Fedex, but that was just smaller RC gear, don`t know how they would price over sized parcels.

When I called Great Hobbies in November, they quoted me $540 Canadian plus shipping. Now I see they have it listed online and in stock for $500 bucks.
Now it sounds good until you find out their shipping costs.

Last winter/spring, HiFlight (which are now defunct) charged me around $100 bucks to ship DHL my Aeroworks 50cc Edge. I should call GH just out of curiosity to find out what there shipping is to Ontario.

I bought all the CF gear for my 50cc Edge from GraphTech, which was like $250 bucks extra.
Then I seen my buddy`s Pilot 30cc Sbach, it comes with all the CF goodies for $450. That I think is the standard in the industry now, to get the CF tubes and gear for the same price. What a differance a year and some competition can make.

So the price of $500 is getting better, it just depends on how much you get it shipped for. Maybe in a while it will come down a bit. But I would not hold your breath. Check out Aeroworks new 30cc Extra 300. Looks super sweet whenever it gets released here from GH.

I will do my best on calculating the wing area when I get it. Removing the volume of the wing that goes into the fuse also. I hope it is more than their estimate....

After High Flight closed Action Hobbies started selling Aeroworks out here , they have been great when I have ordered from them in the past (for in store pick up but they are very organized from what I have seen).

PM Hobbies also sells Aeroworks as well but I would not hold my breath placing orders with them.

We were looking at the 30CCs at Action and both of us commented how you can get this MXS with the engine for the same cost as the AW. LOL

Last winter I ended up with the Pilot RC Sbach 50 CC inpart because of all the gear they give you.

    Good luck keep us posted.
