    HKM Solitaire Plus

Attached are some photos of the plane. Note that what you see is what I got. Note there is nothing to screw the tail into . Will have to figure a way to put some kind of threaded something in the top of the fin so I can mount the h-stab. No pushrods or servo covers for the wings and no...

    HKM Solitaire Plus

Just picked up one of these at an estate sale. Brand new, never been assembled. Anyone have this glider or care to share anything about it? I understand this was a competition F5B glider from the late 90s, early 2000s. Probably not a typical design to be discussed on this forum but some...

I can't wait for spring when we will hold this contest. Right now we have 6 inches of snow and ice on the field, 50 mph winds and temps should hit 3 degrees tonight. Spring can't get here too soon. Brrrrrr

    ALES Contest - Long Island NY - April 25 & 26 2015

Well, it is only January and we already have 6 pilots registered. That's a good sign that this event should be well attended. Love to get four flight groups of 7 to 8 pilots each. We have plenty of room to support up to 13 pilots per flight group but we don't plan it to get that large. 8 per...

What TRANSMITTER do you fly and why

Part of the thread title is, "WHY". Why the changes? Was there something deficient with the original radio? Was there something you needed in the new radio? Or is this simply a case of wanting new toys? I have a pair of Futaba 9C Supers. There are lots of pretty new radios out...

Do you have an old 2M e-glider that you would like to get back into the air?

In the days of brushed motors and NiCd batteries e-gliders were somewhat of a dog category. They were heavy and the climb rates were pretty slow. After a long climb you needed pretty good thermal lift to thermal them. As a result they were not all that popular. But today's brushless...

What TRANSMITTER do you fly and why

I thought we were talking about why JR Radios discontinued old radios and brought out new ones. It is for sales, and profit. You have really turned this into a global economic treatise. That's fine.

What TRANSMITTER do you fly and why

No, I am saying the objective of business is to make a profit. No profit, no jobs, no R&D, no progress, no paychecks, no products or services. I am sure that people said that we didn't need cars, that horses got us around just fine. And if we were meant to fly then we would have had wings...

What TRANSMITTER do you fly and why

Really? You say that like you think it is a bad thing. :rolleyes2: They are a business. Of course they want to make a profit. No profit, no business and no JR radios. Why else would they exist, why else would they make radios except to make a profit? And what funds...

What TRANSMITTER do you fly and why

I am always amused when people are surprised that old things get discontinued and new stuff gets introduced. Why does this surprise anyone? In the age of computers and electronics the pace of change accelerates so the changes come faster. We get new features, new ease of use, hopefully...

At what point do electrics become impractical or too costly?

Some people just prefer electric power. The car is there and there is no extra investment to use it. For what it is worth, I have used my Ford Taurus as a emergency power source during power outages to support a sump pump, some lights and other things. I have connected a 1000 watt power...

At what point do electrics become impractical or too costly?

CHARGING BIG BATTERY PACKS I have seen a variety of posts on RCG and elsewhere about using utility power for charging these big packs. Certainly that makes sense. Some have said that if you want to fly giant scale electrics you need access to the utility grid/120V power. However I...

I think RTF Packages are a great way to get started. You?

I have done a variety of searches looking for new RTF airplane packages. I can find LOTS of RTF electric packages I can find a few RTF glow packages I can't find any RTF Gas packages. I guess they figure if you are flying Gas you are beyond the RTF stage. :)

Interesting comments guys. Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming.

At what point do electrics become impractical or too costly?

What about multiple engine implementations? Are electric power systems advantageous here? While anything can fail, electric have a reputation for reliability. I would think that would be good for multiple engine set-ups. And I would think it would be easier to keep the motor in sync...
