I do have a couple questions for you guys though. I usually fly composite but this time I"m putting a canister muffler into the 30% SD Yak. Do I still need to cut some sort of air exit at the back of the canister tunnel? There isn't really any wood back there per se so the hole would be pretty big. Maybe 5" by 6". That's a BIG hole that I don't really want.

Also, I've got to work out the throttle arms yet. I have thin aluminum arms on both the throttle and servo. The holes are small and would probably fit a double lock clevis, but the pin in the clevis is brass I think. Is brass to aluminum going to cause interference? i guess I could enlarge the holes in the arms to accept a 4/40 and put a ball link on there. What do you guys do?

Use the smaller 2-56 ball links.

No metal to metal on that engine set up. Plastic clevises work fine on throttles as do ball links.

The only thing metal on the clevis would be the pin going through the arm. Wouldn't a ball link have the smae about of metal touching as the bolt is the only thing that would be going through the arm?

But it's surrounded by plastic and so can't conduct down the push rod like a metal clevis on a metal pushrod.

I dunno, I just use a plastic clevis. No problems.

I don't use a plastic clevis anywhere on a 50cc gasser except maybe the choke, if it failed it would still be on the ground. It's no big deal to drill out the holes in the arms for a ball link, then the connection is bullet proof.

Eric, if you can do the work you can upgrade and turn your 50 into a 55 for about $150, except for the crank, carb, and reeds it would all be brand new.

I didn't mean the whole clevis was metal. The whole clevis is plastic except the actual pin that goes through the arm. Like these.

Only I don't have the fancy arms. I just have plane aluminum.

Thanks for the pics Jody! Thousand words.

I don't know why that wouldn't work. Also, with respect to plastic, when you consider the punishment we have all put those things through on the control surfaces of our glow planes, I don't think a throttle is ever going to be a problem for one. JMO.

Having said all that, I think Jody's set-up is far superior! lol
