Default High Alpha Knife Edge / Death Slide

Guys,

When doing a High Alpha Knife Edge/Death Slide are u adding any mixes? Or should i just compensate manually? My mixes (rudder to Elv) for low rates knife edge are perfect! But on high rates, its doing some weird things.

Thanks Lucky

Just use thumbs. If you mix for high alpha you may need to do it on a point curve,it sounds like your rudder to elevator is not linear. Mix any roll out first ,sometimes rollout can seem like elevator pitch the harder you push on the elevator the plane will roll out into a snap. You'll be going what the f. After all roll out is mixed out then proceed to mix out the pitch. I'm going on the assumption that thrust and CG have already been correctly set. All of this takes me about a mouth to do , if you have a buddy who can mix while you fly you can cut it down to a day or two. Good luck!

Some planes need more than others. I put expo on the rates for my Extra. Its solid at about 3% on low rates, but when Im in a high alpha, Im pushin 15%. The Yak I have runs the same % no matter High or Low rates.
With all that said, if you mix a lot, you can effect the hover.... so your going to use thumbs one way or the other.

I did not think about the hover issue. Here are my settings on 9303
"rudder to elv" on low rates rudder goes to point 2 & point 4. Which is perfect for knife edge. But why is point 0 & point 6 less than point 2 & 4? low rate knife edge is straight as an arrow.

point 0- 0
point 1-INH
point 2- -7
point 3- 0
point 4- -7
point 5 - INH
point 6 - 0

thats some great insight, but I still don't understand, why when you mix the rudder to elevator are the knife edges sweet on low rates but as soon as you flip to high rates my knife edge tucks? Also I never thought about the mix effecting my hover. Huh!!!!!

My GP Extra, my SX and my ZN-Line needed only a few percent Rudder-Elev and Rudder-Ail mixing... and they all only needed one single percentage for high rates and low rates... fast or slow...

Most GS 3D/IMAC'ish planes have been engineered to need very little compensation mixing.... what plane do you have that needs a lot of mixing

Tail heavy prob has a lot to do with it. My Extra is real tail heavy and it has to have more mix than my other planes (I usually run my planes balanced neutral)

I agree... neutral or just an RCH positive-stable seems the best overall

Should i turn off all mixes (rudder to aileron & rudder to elevator) when hovering and torque rolling?
