Default Futaba BLS-156HV Brushless Servos

Just thought I'd keep a informal log here on these servos.

I bought 2 to replace the crap hitec 7955's on my rudder. The Hitec started to get the jitters and it has been getting worse and worse, now one of my ailerons is jittering now. Anyway I now have roughly 10 flights on the futabas and so far so good. They center very good and seem to be just a bit stonger than the 7955's. The only concern I have with them at this point is when I check them after a flight the case is very hot. The 7955's got hot also, but I don't think they were this hot. I'm keeping a close eye on them. I am planning on putting atleast 100 flights on them before I decide if I'm going to outfit the rest of the plane or try a different servo.

how do they "feel" in the air compared to the hitec. i have been told by a few people they have a very "exact" feel. i could tell a difference when i removed my 7955's and installed 8711's. the centering, and around center feel felt more accurate.

Got them from Brett at Chief Aircraft. He did me right on them, but they are still a hard pill to swallow compared to the hitec price point.

Spektrum 12ch powersafe rx with 2 2650MAH lipos unregulated.

They do feel 1 million times better. But it is only because my rudder servos were so bad that anything would be an improvement. Now if I had went from properly working 7955's to these, there probably wouldn't be much of a noticeable difference. Like I said in the above post they do actually feel a bit stronger. KE loops, pinwheels, High Alpha all feel a bit better.

So here is a update on these servos. I have maybe 50 flights on them. They had been working pretty good. Didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. Then out of nowhere they started to develop a chatter around center. You could move the stick and it would go away for a bit, then start again. Was not very happy about that, but they still seemed to be working good in the air.

Went to the extreme flight all up huck a few weeks back. After some flights I grabbed the rudder after a flight to walk the plane back and noticed a loose spot in the servo travel. Turns out that the north servo stripped the 4th gear. I took it out and flew out the rest of the weekend on just the one servo. Well it was not enough too hold KE flight at anything over half throttle. So I kept the energy down. By the end of the event the servo was so bad around center that you could deflect the servo about 10-15 degrees either way with no resistance while the servo was turned on.

So I get home and box them up, assuming since these $150ea servos are only a few months old that warranty will be no problem. Well not so much.

BLS156HV(1): We replaced stripped 4th gear and lubricated the gears.
We tested the servo and it passed all bench tests.
Stripped gears are not a warranty issue.
BLS156HV(1): We replaced the upper case, due to the wearing out around
the bushing inside the upper case. We relubricated the gears and
| tested the servo. Unit passed all bench tests.
So I guess I'll give them a call monday and find out if they really want to go down that road with me. I guess If they do, I'll be going and giving the MKS servo another hard look. I'd just like to thank Hitec and there sh!tty servos for making me have to go through all this bullsh!t to find a reliable servo that has good customer service.

i dont want to sound like you don't know how to setup a plane but how did you set up the servo's? i now use a current meter to make sure there is no binding. i have done it by sound in the past, and after getting the current meter found there was alittle figting going on. just a thought.

Man, times must be going hard on everybody or something. I have never had warranty issues with Futaba's stuff, only things I ever sent in were 2 gyro's. One was a 611 gyro with a crack'd case and a crack'd LCD screen, they replaced the case and the whole circuit board that the screen was mounted to, tested and sent back with a $75 bill. Surprised me, I thought it would have been much higher. The second one, was a chopped in half 401 gyro. The crash was so bad, I was just gonna throw it away, but didn't. I sent it in as a joke, and four days later, got an e-mail from the Hobbico people telling me that the price to repair the gyro far exceeded the cost of a new one, so here is what we will do for you, we are sending you a brand new 401, half price, $75. That was back before the economy popped a squat, and took a dump.

The biggest problem with Hobby Services is that they seem to work with hobby shops much more than the average consumer. I sent back hundreds of items over a period of 6 years through the hobby shop I worked at for other customers. NEVER did I have a charge of any type, even when it was clearly the users fault. Everything from receivers to battery packs, to O.S. engines. As a matter of fact, we would call them and explain the problem, get a return authorization from them, then they would ship us a replacement before they ever saw the defective item - almost every time.

I don't know if they want to rip off Joe Schmoe from down the road or what, but if you have to send them back in the future I'd ask that you try going through somewhere that has a storefront. It's definitely a reason to buy from the LHS versus the bargain online store.
