Default Servo direct drive

Has anyone tried this?? I saw it in the Model Aviation mag and checked out the web site. Looks pretty cool.

Anyone with thoughts or experience with such a set up?

Looks like a lot of mods to existing designs... maybe if it was designed in...
But you know what I want... a Lead Screw actuator like our Drones!!

Doesn't look too bad. I wonder what you do if you dont have foam core wings? Roto-tools are bad-ass for pocketing!

I might give it a try if I can ever get my EF 110" yak!!

You flying at Rabbit tomorrow morning? I flew my EF E-yak this morning by the house and I definitely need a fix of the big birds!!

LMK.

Rick Byrd is the guy that had it in a Carden at the Shootout. I'll try and get him to stop in and share his experience over the long term.

I got an email back from Rick Byrd. I haven't seen the ad, but I'm guessing it's his Carden in the ad. Here's his note back to me.

~~~~~~
I would love to talk about the Direct Drive. We are currently installing it in my 100CC Somenzini Yak.
~~~~~~

We'll get his experience in the Carden over the long haul.

Hopefully we can get him to post some pictures of how they installed it in a built up airframe.

Guys sorry it took so long to get on here. Work has been busy.

Direct Drive!?! Well after a year of using the system, I will never go back to the standard linkage system of old. It took flying an old system last weekend to realize this. The best describtion of how the Direct Drive feels and I think I told Dean this at the Shootout. Was it feels like it has power steering for your control surfaces!!!

Now I'm not an engineer or don't pretend to be. I have seen and heard the arguments about mechanical advantage and so on. I'll leave those things to the experts. The same thing about you can't do that without losing this or that. My own personal experince is that it's rock solid. I have never felt this conneted to a plane before.

The system is simple to install. www.durantdirectdrive.com has several pics on the install and also the Model Aviation that it appeared is full of info. To me it was easier to install then to conventional way of the past.

The system has been installed in a built up wing on the Ultimate bipe that is on the website. John Durant the designer of the system is working on installing it in me 100cc Somenzini Yak. He should have pics shortly and when he does I'll post them here. He wanted to be able to show that an individual can install this system in an ARF with no problems.

If anyone has any questions about the system. Feel free to ask.

One other thing. Some of ask about servo fatique. I removed the outer Aileron servo in my Yak that I fly at the Shootout. I figured this servo takes the most abuse over time. No issues were found. The servo is still rock solid.

With this it would NEVER break and with the right materal never wear out....Worded with alot of screw type equipment for 17 years in the petroluem industry. can be built with no slop for every and heavy duty because of the amount of contact in the stem nut......you back me on this Mith????

Thanks, Rick!!

I surfed the website and didn't see any installation pictures other than stuff already installed. Be sure and post the installation process pictures on the Quique Yak. I'm sure the TFC community would like to see how it's done on an ARF.
