Re: RF noise
A large portinion of the separation requirements were generated during the days and use of magneto ignition systems. The early CDI ignitions offered only marginal improvement. However, over the last 12 years or so both ignitions (reputable ones) and radios have evolved considerably, minimizing many of the early separation concerns. It's funny to read from so many that are up to date and expert with almost every new technological advancement but see them list requirements that were established for products generally no longer in use.
The high tech 3d guys use ancient warbird rules and requirements while complaining about the warbird folks that developed the tenichniques. It really is pretty amusing. One thing remains fairly constant though, even the high tech companies isolate their ignition systems at multiple levels from their primary power systems.
