If you're so concerned about weight, just fill the wings with helium! It will weigh less on the scales...or better yet, fill the wings with hydrogen! It's lighter than helium and you'll have a much more spectacular final flight! Seriously, you can shave, carve, eliminate all kinds of things to save weight, but the truth is that it will weight what it weighs (profound, huh?). I've known pattern guys that sell perfectly good airplanes because the AUW was 2-3 oz over their "maximum weight". Fly it, then decide if she's too fat...you may be surprised (advice from a guy who puts 102lbs of water into the wings of his glider before some flights...)
