2.4GHz Upgrade for the QQ Yak 86"
So, I'm the guy that flies very little due to relentless work and personal demands. I got a JR 11X over a year ago, and I have been slowly buying or getting gifts of several other upgrades for my two gassers. I finally decided to get my 50cc bird converted to 2.4GHz before the Temecula Reunion Fun-Fly. It's all been waiting for me to find some time. I made some time, took Friday off and worked on it over the weekend
As we have been discussing in another thread, I found this cool and inexpensive Power Bar sold by Servo City ($18). It's a simplified version of a Power Distribution device, where it simply provides a high-current buss for connection of the servos, and connection leads to the Rx for signal only. No servo current passes thru the Rx.
I laid in a 1/8x1/2 hardwood spanner with blind nuts for mounting
Then I used some hard tubing to make a standoff mounting.
I made a Rx mount from two blocks of Balsa and some thin plywood. I'm mounting the Rx with Velcro.
It's easy to reoute the Rx lines neatly in this arrangement.

I used a simple flat piece of balsa sheeting spanning the bracing to mount the rear remote receiver antenna.
I made a tee-stand from hardwood and balsa to mount the front remote receiver antenna.

re: 2.4GHz Upgrade for the QQ Yak 86"
So, now I have pretty good antenna diversity, with separation and all on different planes. Hopefully this will all pay off. I mounted the Data Logger next to the Rx, since it's so lightweight and small. I also left an extension for the binding jumper so I can re-bind as necessary.
Another look at the front remote antenna.
A gift from Christmas, new carbon fiber landing gear, installed.
New A123 2S1100 on Ignition.
New A123 2S2600 for flight controls.
... and a new 24 oz Sullivan fuel tank and the upgraded metal fitting. I'm running a 3-line system, with the vent to the top of the tank, and the fill line bent down to the floor of the tank in front so I can drain all the fuel for those long resting periods I seem to need.

re: 2.4GHz Upgrade for the QQ Yak 86"
The Power Bar turned out to be a real challenge. I was wrong about the power service to the Rx. The power bar isolates the Rx, so none of the positive leads are connected to the positive buss on the Power Bar circuit. I had to solder a jumper on the PCB to get the power from the pls to the Rx Leads so I was powering up the Rx.
Also, the leads gave me troubles too. When I started setting up the controls, I found the Rudder Channel was dead, turned out there was an open circuit in the #4 channel Rx lead. Had to redo that one after cutting out the broken wire. Then after putting it all together, I discovered the same problem with the right Aileron channel. SH!T, what a pain in the ass.. I did a really good job assembling the gadget, but still had two bad lines. Next time I'll buy the pre-assembled version.

Still looks good T-man! I strive to have my stuff that neat, but I don't always make it that far.

Looking good T. Too bad the Bus bar gave you fits. I'm hoping the pre-assembled ones go through QC before going out the door. If I ever got one I'd do a single 20ga. servo lead out of the switch to the RX, and one 16ga. lead to the Bus...

re: 2.4GHz Upgrade for the QQ Yak 86"
Thanks guys, I like a tidy install.
That Aileron line is a short inside between signal and positive. I have looked at all the solder joints under high magnification, can't see any cross over anywhere. Grumble... gotta replace the lead I guess.
