Default 3W-170 Carb Horn

I experimented today with my 3W-170 by removing the Carb horn. I ran some tubing from the the nipple vent on the carb to the inside of my fuselage. Went out to the field and had no issues starting it up and running on the ground. When I took off I notice a slight hesitation but kept going. After about the 3rd or 4th pass the throttle responce was getting worse and then it almost died on me. So I thottled back and landed. The Carb is the Tilitson.

In the air it almost sounded like the infamous holly 4 barrel bog when you stomped on the gas pedal. I didn t mess with the needles when the horn was on or off. So I put the carb horn back on and the engine was good to go.

Anyone experience this issue and whats the fix?

Thanks in advance,

BV

The fix is: Leave the horn on. Your fuse is pressurizing in the air, so the carb was getting mixed readings.

Kind of what I was thinking as well, CC..................

A pill bottle with a nipple in it serves the purpose like the horn.

Personally, I have had no luck with the line in the fuse. I just tune the burble out.

Nope, it ran just fine. It was just an experiment to see what would happen and thats what I ran into.

My first thought was,,, crap I'm gonna have to adjust the plunger arm or something,,, second thought was,,, thats a pain in the butt,,, the horn is going back on. It was just a little un-nerving going down wind and hearing the engine wanting to die,,,

Flew just fine like nothing ever happened after that for the rest of the day.
