H9 35% Extra 260
I have been reading about issues with the H9 35% Extra wings. Evidently, there were wings failing a few years ago. Then they came up with a fix you could do yourself. Finally they came up with a new version of the wings called V2. The V2s are supposedly indestructible but heavier.
I have one of these planes that I'm about to assemble. I bought it a long time after the mod came out but before the V2.
Horizon has said they would swap my wings for V2. It sounds like a good deal but they can't seem to tell how much heavier they are.
I don't fly super hard 3D so I'm thinking I should just keep my wings. Also I'm thinking that since I bought my plane about a year and half after the problems started, that the factory would have incorporated the mods before shipping it.
I haven't seen many of these fly but the ones I saw the guys were pounding them hard and I didn't see any failures.
What do you guys think? Should I get the V2 or keep my lighter wings?
Also, wouldn't you think that since I bought the plane so long after the issues and mods came out I shouldn't have to do the glueing (I'm guessing the factory would have incorporated the mods before shipping)?

Re: H9 35% Extra 260
If it won't cost you anything to swap out to the V2 wings why wouldn't you just for piece of mind if nothing else?
I had the original version and flew it a lot before they came out with the mod proceedure. Then I was at a meet with another guy with the same plane with a lot of flights on his as well and neither of us had done the wing mod. Later in the day his wing blew off and he lost the plane. The next weekend I was doing the wing mod.
That plane is super light anyway I doubt any extra added weight would hurt the performance anyway.

That right there is a great story- I would be doing the same thing!
Peace of mind has it's value. I would Pop for the shipping if you have to and get the V2's. They are great flying planes- You should like yours!

Re: H9 35% Extra 260
The only reason I hesitated in getting the V2 wings was they wouldn't tell me how much more they weighed.
I was reading on another site where a guy asked Mike McConville how much more they weighed and he wouldn't say how much weight was gained. He would only say they were about the same as other planes in it's class.
I agree it would be a piece of mind but this will be my first light plane. When no one would say how much weight would increase, I figured I'd stay with the light ones.
Did you have trouble after doing the mod?

Get the V2's, I don't think there is going to be much difference in weight. I had this plane withe V2's running lipos, smart fly, regs, switches and DA 100, I came in at 27 lbs, 8oz, not to bad in my opinion.

Get the V2 wings, you will not notice any different in flight.

Re: H9 35% Extra 260
Lighter is better, but maybe we are all going a little 'weight' crazy right now? It's something when we start disregarding known safety hazards to save a few Z's. Dependability is #1 for me- everything else should come 2nd.

When the wing breaks and you destroy your engine and servos you'll wish you had gotten the V2 wings. Just saying.
